My WordPress Contribution Journey
As a Computer Science and Engineering student interested in web development, open-source technologies, and community learning, I joined the WordPress Credits Program to gain practical experience contributing to an open-source project.
For my contribution project, “Contributing to WordPress Through Photography and Bengali Localization,” I chose three official WordPress contribution teams: Photos, Polyglots, and Training.
Why I Chose These Teams
Photos Team: I chose the Photos Team because I enjoy photography and appreciate the idea of sharing creative resources that anyone can freely use. Contributing photographs allows me to support the WordPress community in a practical and meaningful way.
Polyglots Team: I selected the Polyglots Team because I want to help make WordPress more accessible to Bengali-speaking users. Translating WordPress into Bengali connects my language skills with my interest in technology and open-source contribution.
Training Team: The Training Team also interested me because educational resources are essential for helping people learn WordPress. Translating Learn WordPress content into Bengali is an opportunity to make technical learning materials more accessible to people who prefer learning in their native language.
My Contribution Project and Progress
My project focuses on three areas of contribution:
- WordPress Photos: I have already published more than 30 CC0-licensed photographs in the WordPress Photo Directory and continue contributing new images.
- WordPress Polyglots: I contribute Bengali translations through translate.wordpress.org to support WordPress localization.
- WordPress Training: I am working on Bengali translations of Learn WordPress educational content, including work related to GitHub issue #3724, “The WordPress Ecosystem.”
These activities allow me to explore different aspects of open-source contribution while supporting the WordPress community.
What I Hope to Learn and Achieve
Through the WordPress Credits Program, I hope to improve my understanding of open-source collaboration, translation workflows, community contribution guidelines, and educational content localization.
By the end of the program, I aim to continue contributing photographs, expand my Bengali translation contributions, and submit Learn WordPress content for translation review.
I also want to gain more experience working with WordPress contributors and become more confident in participating in the global open-source community.
Final Thoughts
Choosing the Photos, Polyglots, and Training Teams has given me an opportunity to combine my interests in photography, language localization, technology, and education.
I look forward to continuing these contributions, learning from the WordPress community, and helping make WordPress resources more accessible to others.
